ievo has been reviewed in this month’s independent test publication Benchmark Magazine, the only product test assessment relating to security systems on the market at the moment including biometric products. The ievo Ultimate reader was called by Benchmark’s editor Pete Conway to be tested alongside three other fingerprint readers for their special biometric security system feature. The edition has been split into two parts, with the first focusing on design and functionality.
ievo Ultimate™ scored 82% for product design and 80% for features and functions. The written analysis of the test reflected ievo™’s ethos which has been achieved by listening to both customers and current integrators which makes up the foundation of the ievo™ product range.
The review congratulated the fact that the Ultimate™ fingerprint reader itself holds no connections or relays which has been a magnificent advantage to the product. Many competitive biometric readers out there can be easily compromised because relays can be crossed or removed which could potentially open the ‘secured’ door. ievo™ overcame this issue by listening to security providers, integrators and installers at the beginning of the design process. They made it clear from the outset that they were worried about unwanted intruders if the relays became compromised. ievo™ solved this problem by housing the relays five metres away on the inside of the secured door.
Benchmark also stated that this is coupled with its vandal resistant IP65 rated exterior enhancing its robustness.
“The reader is billed as vandal resistant, and has an IP65 access control rating, making it ideal for external siting…in order to prevent access via tampering, the reader itself does not contain any connections or relays. Instead sealed cables link the unit to a connection box”
The renowned multi-spectral imaging sensor used in ievo™ products was also mentioned as indeed able to scan through the likes of dirt, dry and moisture laden fingerprints, another reason why ievo™ integrators; Paxton, ACT, BSB, Inner-Range, Argus Global and Nortech associate themselves with this product.
Managing director of ievo™ Shaun Oakes spoke after reading the review insisting, “We are very pleased with the assessment so far. It reflects well upon our company ethos of ‘biometric evolution’ giving our customers only the best, by listening to them and implementing it into our products. We look forward to the second half of the review which is to be published in next month’s edition”

Not so long ago, Ievo submitted their Ultimate fingerprint access control reader for testing which would be featured in Benchmark magazine. Alongside three other security systems companies the review is split in two halves. The first section which was published yesterday assessed the entry systems design and functionality, in which Ievo scored 82% and 80% respectively, which is equivalent to a Benchmark recommendation so far.
The review tells of our biometric door locks abilities, including integration, vandal resistance and external use. Ievo Ultimate™ even had the pleasure of adorning the front page of the published edition.

Spider Technologies Ltd have been at the forefront of another Ievo Ultimate biometric installation – This time biometrics in schools. The project began in July 2011 at a school in North Wales, and required six readers for the site. The Ultimate units are fitted both internally and externally and also secure the sites main entry points. Almost 1,500 pupils are registered as well as teaching and domestic staff.
The school previously used cards as their security system, but found they were too expensive to replace, because the pupils had a habit of losing them. Therefore, the Ievo Ultimate biometric readers were perfect for the job, because fingerprints cannot be lost or stolen, plus can be used both inside and outside. A major advantage of the Ievo fingerprint recognition system was the interface with Paxton Net2 which allowed the school to set access levels between the pupils and staff.
Steve Jones, Managing Director of Spider Technologies Ltd commented that, “The robust fingerprint biometric system looks great and the installation went smoothly. The Ievo Ultimate system has been installed for 6 months and is still working perfectly since the day we installed it. My Ievo account manager came to visit a couple of times on site, to ensure that the installation was going as well as it should be. Having that extra support from the manufacturer is great!”

With January nearing a close we have plenty of exciting installs of our door access system to tell you about. Controversially, Ievo Ultimate replaced a leading biometric system (again) at a construction site and as of yet is working beautifully. Perhaps sometime in the future we’ll have a case study with all the details! In addition, Ievo Ultimate™ provides biometric finger access at a prison in the North of England, a maximum security area protected with spoof detection enabled. Finally, Ievo Micro™ has made its debut with an office installation. Six fingerprint software readers were required and are fitting in nicely with the surroundings of the corporate build.
Hopefully soon we will have pictures, case studies and press releases on each of these installs, so that you can see the features of both our Ultimate™ and Micro™ fingerprint biometric readers working in their natural environments.

The Ievo Demo-Kit; Including the Micro and Ultimate Fingerprint Readers
Ievo has launched the world’s smallest and most advanced multi-spectral fingerprint scanner after securing a 150,000 investment from the Finance for Business North East Accelerator Fund.
Killingworth-based Ievo developed its new ‘Micro’ biometric reader to meet the growing demand for security door locks in airports, hospitals, offices, data centres and hotels.
Instead of using a card-reader, key fob or numeric keypad to open a security door, users touch their index finger to a small sensor mounted on the door-frame which scans their fingerprint and opens the door to authorised personnel.
“Although this type of fingerprint reader has been seen for many years on television and in Hollywood movies, the reality is that the existing technology was unreliable and affected by things like weather or users with anything other than perfectly clean and dry hands,” said Ievo managing director Shaun Oakes.
“Our competitors all manufacture in the Far East, and readers designed for internal use in their high rise offices or apartment blocks are simply not suitable for European customers who are more likely to have their own front door. That’s why our first product, the ‘Ultimate’, was ruggedised to cope with harsh weather and work in exposed locations or extremes of temperature.
”Unlike existing products which simply scan the surface of a fingertip and struggle to cope with dirty hands, our readers use nine different wavelengths of light to scan 4mm below the skin’s surface and identify collagen ridges and blood vessels. Our state of the art technology means the system works for users whose hands are wet, dirty, greasy, covered in powder or even wearing thin latex gloves.
“Since launching the Ultimate a year ago, it has been installed at Olympic sites, the German embassy in London and the Scottish National Arena in Glasgow. In the autumn it was a finalist in the Security Innovation of the Year category at the Security Excellence Awards in London, and we hope this sister product designed for internal use will be just as successful.”
Managed by Northstar Ventures, the Accelerator Fund investment – which is supported by the European Investment Bank, One North East and the European Regional Development Fund – has helped to create three new jobs in Ievo’s Killingworth HQ. It follows an earlier investment, also of £150,000.
Rebecca Crawford of Northstar said: “We were particularly pleased to make this second investment in Ievo which is based in the region, manufactures here and has recently taken on two graduates from Newcastle University.
“But, make no mistake, this is a world-class company and adding the Micro to its product range now means it has a fingerprint reader for every application – exterior, interior or a combination of the two. Shaun has ten years in the industry, and was careful to make his products compatible with existing access and alarm systems – which has led to their rapid adoption by some of the biggest names in the security business such as Chubb, Paxton and ADT.
“Existing technologies all have their inherent problems. Companies with card-reader access doors have to spend £10-15 each on cards which are easily lost or damaged, and research has shown that those using keypad systems often use the same pin codes for years – even after once-trusted staff have left.
“This a hi-tech solution which can identify up to 8,000 different users, is robust and also foolproof. Police fingerprint experts have been able to defeat inferior biometric readers with fake fingers. But, thanks to spoof-detection technology, unless it’s the real thing Ievo’s systems keep the door firmly shut.”
Following our recent news, we are pleased to announce that our Ievo Micro test video is now available to watch and download. Much in the same way as the Ultimate test video, we show you the exact capabilities of our newest biometric fingerprint reader. Without leading you on and rampaging about what our biometric product can do, we want you to be compelled by the power of image, because here at Ievo™ we are so sure about what our product can do we video it in our very own offices under the same conditions as if you were to install it yourself.
In the video you will see Ievo Micro™ working with cream and powder present on the skin, as well as with latex gloves worn by the user. Typical sites and projects where you might find such conditions would be childcare centres, schools, bakeries, or manufacturing plants and many more. Other biometric products that do not use the same advanced technology will not accept the same fingerprint in these conditions. It is an extremely useful advantage because you just never know what individual registered on the system will have traces of moisturiser or powders on their prints.

ievo has strived to maintain their brand mantra of creating unmatched biometric products by adding another reputable fingerprint reader to their security range. The new ievo micro boasts many of the original ultimate features including the credible multi-spectral imaging sensor, seamless integration and 8,000 unique fingerprint capacity.
Having successfully launched the original ievo ultimate™ reader just two years ago, ievo™ were keen to produce another biometric solution based on an abundance of responses from current installers of the original reader. From this feedback, the idea of an internal only fingerprint reader came to the fore which would provide extra variety for installers pursuing projects that required a cost effective, yet reliable and practical security solution similar to the ultimate™ product.
By developing this idea further other features that were developed include spoof detection, where the reader is able to differentiate between live human fingerprints as opposed to synthetic man-made prints. Micro™ also retains its functionality even with types of creams and powders on the skin as well as with the user wearing some types of latex gloves. Alternate options for mounting, include mullion which will provide the user with extra choice on how to display their security system without it looking too out of place within the surroundings. Finally, ievo™ have maintained the advantageous feature of seamless integration into existing card, fob and proximity systems causing very little disruption during the installation process.
Managing Director of ievo™ Shaun Oakes comments that, “Our new internal only fingerprint reader has solely been created to add variety to our unrivalled biometric range, yet maintain quality and reliability that many access control products lack within the security industry. Having provisionally launched micro™ to our existing customers we received quotes for projects including cash offices, server rooms, office blocks even people’s homes who would like additional security within. This shows that even though micro™ is half the size it is still as feature rich as the ultimate™ reader and clearly has a market of its own out there.”
Simon Farmer from ACC Security Solutions has had an exclusive demonstration of the micro™ reader and stated that, “It’s small, light and attractive, yet has many of the same features as the ultimate™. I will be recommending micro™ to my clients as a dependable and reliable internal only security solution.”
